The Maggie Flanigan Studio announced it was resuming in-person instruction with a planned grand reopening scheduled for September 10. The event marks the launch of a completely new studio space, and the beginning of the studio's celebrated Two-Year Acting program. After being forced to close in-p...

The summer intensive program at the Maggie Flanigan Studio was life changing. The work is hard and learning to be open and vulnerable can be scary. This is a place where actors are free to explore so many different facets of themselves.

I've never taken a voice class like this one before. You will continue to find freedom in your natural voice as you did in Voice I and II, but Voice III brings you to complex, heightened text. In Shakespeare youÂ’re given the most significant moment in a characterÂ’s life, the most gut-wrenching,...

I found voice to be the most important obstacle in my time at Maggie Flanigan Studio. Once I enrolled in Voice and Speech, my work changed exponentially. It helped ground me. It sounds funny, but when you're an actor and you're up in front of a class or on stage, its easy to forget to breathe! Vo...

Online acting classes with Charlie have been a revelation for me. I have found the online format an invaluable way to continue my acting training from home and stay plugged into a community of like-minded artists. And for better or worse, the future of this industry is virtual in many aspects. Is the online platform more challenging to work with at times? Yes. Do I have to hold myself much more accountable for my work? Yes. Do I miss the physical contact? Of course I do — but all of these challenges make the online classes that much more effective for those who are truly committed. I've continued to grow in abundant ways since taking my classes online with Charlie and think there is immense value for those looking to get their acting training started online at Maggie Flanigan.

In addition to the Acing Class in the summer intensive, I took Voice 1. Liz Eckert is an excellent voice teacher. She's very attentive and patient with everyone - I could see how much she enjoyed witnessing each of the students progressed along our own exploratory process. Working with her was a pleasure. As a singer and an actor I know how crucial it is to be able to express myself fully, without having physical obstacles that get in the way of fully using my voice to do so. I wanted to see what this class had to offer and see what blocks I might not even know I needed to deal with. The class left me with highly practical techniques in the form of an adaptable warm-up routine. I have something I can use to relax and free up my body and voice for any situation that I need it. The work we did was incredibly subtle; with each exercise and lecture I found how challenging it is to explore how my entire physical body connected to my voice. It was surprisingly difficult to find ways to re...

Bill is an excellent teacher and does a wonderful job of encouraging the students technically and spiritually to bring the best version of themselves to each commercial audition. The Commercial Acting class changed my entire perspective on commercial acting and showed me how technical the process can be. I feel inspired and much better equipped to break down commercial copy and approach an upcoming audition with confidence. I would highly recommend the class.

Acting Classes in New York, NY

Who it comes to acting classes the Maggie Flanigan Studio is widely considered to have the best acting classes in NYC. The acting studio has acting classes and professional acting programs based on the life work of Sanford Meisner and the Meisner Technique.

We are proud to be NYC’s most respected professional actor training program. We welcome aspiring actors interested in going the distance with themselves; risk-takers who want to feel safe, nurtured, and yet pushed in a way they could have never imagined in order to fulfill their fullest artistic potential. Charlie and all of the faculty approach every day honored to be the caretakers of Maggie’s artistic vision.

Maggie established the Maggie Flanigan Studio to offer smaller acting classes and to give individual attention to serious actors in a conservatory-based program. She has carefully chosen the faculty and designed the curriculum to parallel an MFA-based program. Over the past decade, the Studio has become a magnet for talented actors interested in the Meisner technique.

It is widely acknowledged by actors familiar with Meisner training and by professionals in the industry that the Maggie Flanigan Studio and its staff understands and teaches the Meisner work more clearly and precisely than any practicing Meisner studio or Meisner teachers today.
